Former Inter Milan striker Diego Milito says that he is confident that his former club can return to their glory days under the management of Roberto Mancini, who returned to the club for a second spell.
The poor run of form throughout Walter Mazzarri’s regime did not appear to go away and the club decided to take action by sacking the former Napoli boss after the 2-2 draw against Hellas Verona. This was the third match without a win in all competitions for the Italian outfit and it left them ninth in the table.
Under Mancini, the club enjoyed tremendous success and they lifted numerous league titles. Milito was part of one of the league winning campaigns, although it was under Jose Mourinho. Now, the striker has returned to Argentine football and he is widely expected to retire in the next couple of years. He will be regarded as one of the finest in Inter’s history given that they lifted the famous treble in 2010. The conditions of today are vastly different compared to Mancini’s first spell. Back then, Inter were probably the sole favourite to win the title. Now, they will have to contend with the likes of Juventus, Roma, and, to a certain extent, Napoli.
“Everybody knows about Mancini, he’s a great manager, with a lot of experience. I don’t have any doubt he’ll be able to bring Inter back to greatness, he knows the club, he’s beloved by the fans, which is always very important. He’ll do great things, I’m sure about it.I believe the squad is good enough to achieve great things on the pitch, they have to fight for the title, they’re a big club, it’s imperative they fight to get titles,” said the striker. Inter will have to return to the Champions League in order to continue their rebuilding process.
