Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic has entered into the final 12 months of his contract with the club. This has started rumours that the Serbian defender could finally be set for an exit from Old Trafford after several years of constantly being linked with a move.
The 31-year-old has just returned to pre-season after suffering numerous injury problems in the last few years. Vidic and Rio Ferdinand has been one of the best partnerships in English football over the last few years, but United have been unable to pair them together for most of the matches in the last two years.
Despite only less than 12 months remaining on his contract, the defender is not worried about his future right now. After coming back to the first-team just in time for the start of the new season, the defender played in the 2-0 win over Wigan on Sunday. This helped them lift the Community shield. After the match, he said that he is more than delighted to be back and is not worrying about other aspects. He also does not expect a contract offer from United at the moment. He just wants to prove his fitness to the club.
Vidic has said that he expects a closely fought title race this season with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City involved.
“I’m not expecting anything. I’m just trying to perform as best I can and we’ll see where I am and what the plans are. I’m not worried. I never like to make promises about how many games I could play, but I feel good. The question has been can we win the title again and I’ve always said after last season we have to work hard and show we are capable of winning again,” said the defender after the Wigan match.
